In 1892, the legendary US Army captain, Joseph J. Blocker, carries out a final mission before retirement: escorting Yellow Hawk, a native american tribal chief warrior, back to the sacred tribal lands. After 20 years of violent struggle, this gesture of peace is just as unimaginable and difficult. Blocker is a racist, a man who hates deep-seated hatred of former prisoners who are now in his care. Two great warriors, once rivals on the battlefield, must learn to trust each other and find peace in an unforgivable land.
A Heroic Odyssey of Survival, Hostiles (2017) becomes a story about the journey to respect, reconciliation, and forgiveness. “Hostiles” explores the complex and troubled relationship of those who have lived on this earth for centuries and the white intruder, asking the question: is reconciliation possible?
