Lech Majewski, one of the most courageous and inspired filmmakers European film transposes the Flemish masterpiece “Procession to Calvary” (1564) by Pieter Brueghel the Younger. Inspired by the homonymous book of distinguished art historian Michael Francis Gibson, the film places the story of the Passion of Christ in Flanders 1564, the year in which Bruegel even realized his masterpiece. Of the more than 500 figures in the painting, Gibson and Majewski created ten characters whose intertwined. Several specialists in computer graphics recreated with remarkable effects, landscapes Bruegel’s canvas. Majewski invites the viewer / spectator to live in aesthetic universe of the painting, as it is painted.
