Easy Land

Immigration is never easy. Director Sanja Zivkovic approaches the experience of the Canadian immigrant from the perspective of the relationship between a mother and her daughter. Jasna (Mirjana Jokovic), an architect, and her daughter Nina (Nina Kiri) are Serbian refugees who move to Toronto to have a better life. They are still traumatized by what they saw in their homeland, and Jasna’s mental health is fragile and affected by the servile things she has to do to pay her bills. Nina faces her own challenges trying to integrate into high school. In the face of separate opportunities, the mother and daughter must each figure out how to improve their situation while keeping their delicate relationship intact.
