How do you find lasting love in today’s world? For dating app-addicted documentarian Zoe (Lily James), the app has brought her nothing but the wrong men, especially if you ask her eccentric mother, Cath (Emma Thompson). For Kazim (Shazad Latif), Zoe’s childhood friend and neighbor, the answer to finding love is to follow his parents’ example and opt for an arranged (or “assisted”) marriage with a bright and beautiful bride from Pakistan. As Zoe films Kazim’s hopeful journey from London to Lahore to marry a foreigner of his parents’ choosing, she begins to wonder if he might have something to learn from a profoundly different approach to finding love.
